William Penn received his charter in 1681 and Philadelphia was laid out on a grid the following year. The Pueblo Revolt of 1680 drove Spanish settlers out of New Mexico for more than a decade. James II merged the northern colonies into the Dominion of New England in 1686, which collapsed in 1689.
