Built in the 1760s
Britain won the war and took Canada under the Treaty of Paris in 1763, then tried to pay for it. The Proclamation of 1763 closed the land west of the Appalachians to settlement, and the Stamp Act of 1765 and the Townshend duties of 1767 set off organized colonial resistance. Spain founded its first California missions at San Diego in 1769.
